The professional jury selected 39 nominees from all applications. Between December 13 and January 16, consumers can choose their favorites via by stemwebsite.
What have you been nominated for?
Anne Marie Borgdorff: “We have been nominated with the Give Color campaign, an initiative of the National Action Plan for Fruit and Vegetables and the Food Cabinet campaign agency in collaboration with various partners. With our initiative we want to color the Netherlands with more fruit and vegetables and show that eating fruit and vegetables is tasty, healthy and sustainable. You may know us from the ‘edible’ bus shelter full of pears, apples, peppers, avocados and cucumbers or the nomination campaign in which 1,000 Dutch people received a box of fruit and vegetables.
Why did you start this?
2021 is the UN International Year of Fruit and Vegetables. A year in which worldwide attention is being paid to the importance of fruit and vegetables. It is good for our health, makes us resistant to viruses and fits into a more sustainable diet. The more colorful fresh we see in our environment, the more we eat. The current food environment mainly tempts us to make unhealthy choices. That is why, with Geef Kleur Door, we call on municipalities, institutions, companies and consumers to ensure that fruit and vegetables must be available to everyone everywhere and at any time.”
“The great thing about fruit and vegetables is that everyone agrees that eating them has added value for both your health and sustainability. This means that many parties support our message – eat more fruit and vegetables.”
“The partners of Geef Kleur Door are: Goeie Grutten, Rijk Zwaan, Nature’s Pride, Bakker Barendrecht, Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality, Koninklijke Vezet and GroentenFruit Huis. The supporters are: Staay Food Group, The Greenery, Oxin Growers, Fruitmasters, Platform Fruitvooruit.nl, LTO Nederland, Greenhouse Horticulture Netherlands, ZLTO, LTO Noord and LLTB. Give Color is supported by: Fruit op je Werk, UNICEF Netherlands, Maag Lever Darm Foundation and Arts & Lifestyle.
So make sure you can’t get around it by always having vegetables or fruit on the table, in your fridge and in your lunch box.
What else does it take to get people to eat healthy(er)?
“The more healthy choices we encounter, the more often we choose them. It is therefore important that we color our environment with carrots, tomatoes, bananas and mandarins. The good news: if we eat fruit and vegetables at other times in addition to our evening meal and that one apple, we quickly reach the recommended amount of 250 to 300 grams. So make sure you can’t get around it by always having vegetables or fruit on the table, in your fridge and in your lunch box. Radishes, peppers, pears and grapes are very suitable for adding color to your party or birthday.”
