Every movie starring Wrexham AFC chairman Ryan Reynolds coming out in 2022

WHEN it was announced that Ryan Reynolds was to become co-chair of Wrexham AFC if felt as fantastical as the plot of one of his movies.

But almost a year down the line, it’s just accepted that one of the world’s biggest movie stars (Dwayne Johnson might be a smidge bigger) is at the helm of the town’s historic football club.

He, and co-chairman Rob McElhenney, visited Wrexham in 2021 where he showed himself to be a genuinely nice bloke albeit one with an occasional potty mouth.

And Ryan’s day job has also had an impact on Wrexham.

A trailer for his Netflix movie Red Notice, in which he starred alongside Dwayne Johnson (him again) and Gal Gadot was filmed in Wrexham.

A preview of Free Guy was shown for frontline workers in Wrexham.

And a humble Wrexham journalist (me) was asked to provide a review quote for the marketing campaign.

Ryan is likely to return to Wrexham in 2022. It was thought he and Rob could be back as early as January, but current Covid restrictions mean their return could be delayed.

But the Deadpool star is going to be busy, with several movies slated to come out in 2022.

Here are the ones we know about so far:

Ryan will star alongside Elf and Anchorman star Will Ferrell in Spirited, described as a modern musical reimagining of Charles Dickens’ 1843 seasonal classic A Christmas Carol.

Ryan will play Scrooge, starring alongside Ferrell with Octavia Spencer and Sunita Mani.

Ryan has shared a TikTok of him in costume with Will, and the finished movie will be out in time for Christmas 2022.

The Adam Project

Like Red Notice, this is another of Ryan Reynolds’ Netflix projects.

The time travel movie will see him reunited with Free Guy director Shawn Levy. The plot reportedly follows man who goes back in time to help his 13-year-old self.

The Adam Project also stars Zoe Saldana, Jennifer Garner, and Mark Ruffalo, and should begin streaming on the subscription channel in 2022.

Everyday Parenting Tips

This comedy due for release in 2022 explores the challenges faced by a dad (played by Reynolds) of raising kids during an ongoing monster uprising.

The Universal Pictures (they know their monsters) project is based on Simon Rich’s New Yorker humorous short story from May 2020.

The movie is directed by Paul King.

Dragon’s Lair

Another Netflix project, this time based on the iconic 1983 arcade game created by Rick Dyer and Don Bluth.

In the Netflix adaptation, Reynolds will portray a heroic knight who is trying to rescue a princess from an evil dragon and a wizard.

Directed by Don Bluth and Gary Goldman, Dragon’s Lair is expected to be release on Netflix in 2022.

Another game adaptation, Clue is the American name for the board game Cluedo.

This will be second time the game has been brought to the screen, following the 1985 cult classic starring Tim Curry.

Ryan will reportedly be reunited with his The Change-Up co-star Jason Bateman for the film which as yet has no release date.

Deadpool 3

The sequel is in pre-production and, although filming could start as early as this year, it is unlikely to be released in 2022.

The two previous Deadpool movies have a combined box office total of almost $1.5 billion, and Bob’s Burgers writers Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin are set to pen the eagerly awaited sequel.

Ryan will reprise his role as the titular anti-hero, but it is not known what other characters or actors will appear or reappear.

This will be the first Deadpool movie set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and it could slot into one of the two vacant release dates in 2023 alongside other threequels Ant-Man 3 and Guardians of the Galaxy 3.

And don’t write Reynolds’ Deadpool off from having a cameo in an MCU movie, such as the second Doctor Strange, before then.

Welcome to Wrexham

Not a film, but something we’re all eager to watch.

The documentary series Welcome To Wrexham featuring Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, alongside many involved with the club and town, will be released in 2022 on US network FX.

There’s no UK release date as yet, but it is likely to be at the same time or not far behind the American date.

Before Christmas a trailer, which created a Welsh version of Rob’s show It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia cast, was released on social media.

Sequels are also expected for Free Guy and Red Notice, but it is unlikely either will come out in 2022.
