The Russian opponent Alexei Navalny presented this Wednesday before a court in the town of Petushkí, in the Russian region of Vladimir, another lawsuit against the IK-2 penitentiary, where he is imprisoned.
The court indicated that the document denounces actions by senior officials of the penitentiary related to “precarious prison conditions for people who are in custody or have been convicted”However, he did not give more details about it.
Navalny previously filed three other appeals against the center for the behavior of its employees, according to information from the news agency Sputnik. In his lawsuits, the opponent claims that IK-2 staff censor the newspapers they receive, refuse to deliver requested books, and treat him as if he were a person at high risk of flight.
The third demand was rejected by the Russian Justice, although the previous judicial hearings were suspended at the request of the opponent himself. Now, the dissident has shown his opposition to the center declaring him an “extremist and prone to committing terrorist or extremist attacks”.
At the beginning of February, the Russian Justice ruled that Navalny had repeatedly violated the rules of his parole and made effective a suspended sentence of 3 and a half years in prison for fraud and money laundering.
The appeal filed by the defense was unsuccessful. Justice deducted from the sentence the time that Navalny had spent under house arrest, for which he will have to serve another two and a half years.
Navalny was arrested on January 18 upon arrival at Moscow airport for failing to comply with probation after spending months in Germany recovering from a poisoning that the prominent Russian opponent blames directly on the country’s President Vladimir Putin.
Sewing Box in Prison
On the other hand, in a message on his Instagram account, Navalny revealed on Tuesday that he works in the sewing jail, after the prison forced him to choose a work activity. “You’ve been with us for nine months, it’s time to work,” authorities at Vladimir prison, about 100 kilometers east of Moscow, told him.
The opponent explained that He was able to choose between the vacancies that there were: foreman of the order, cook, baker, assistant and seamstress. He noted that he liked to look like a baker, “a blond guy in a white cap who would see, with his hands on his hips, how bread is made in the oven,” but eventually he enrolled in the sewing workshop.
